My Journey at CMAC Open Days 2023
Attending CMAC Open Days 2023, an event that stood out among the various international forums and scientific meetings I've had the privilege to be a part of. The impact of this particular gathering left an indelible mark on me, as it seemed tailor-made to resonate with my interests and aspirations.
A few weeks prior, during my MSc studies, Dr. Steven Ford introduced me to the concept of Quality by Design (QbD). Little did I know that shortly thereafter, I would add another significant "D" to my knowledge arsenal—Quality by Digital Design. This journey led me to explore the integration of Industry 4.0 in the pharmaceutical sector, a fusion of cutting-edge tools like non-invasive sensors, in-line probes, mass spectrometry, Ion air HPLC, collectively known as Process Analytical Tools (PAT). These tools, interconnected through the Internet of Things (IoT), give rise to what we term as "big DATA," where the big "D" takes center stage.
Understanding and harnessing this data becomes a powerful tool for technological innovation, particularly in the realm of digital twins. Enter a new term into the narrative—Digital Twins. Imagine creating a digital replica of the pharmaceutical process by combining the data generated by PAT with physical, chemical, and biological models. Witnessing this in action at CMAC, where digital medicines manufacturing (DM²) is a reality, was truly awe-inspiring.
DM² at CMAC operates through five integrated research platforms, each contributing to the development of innovative Industrial Digital Technologies (IDTs) that promise to revolutionize every facet of the medicines manufacturing supply chain. The visual representation of these platforms is a testament to the comprehensive approach taken by CMAC in fostering digital advancements.
However, beyond the knowledge-sharing and technological marvels, what struck me most was the opportunity to engage with the brilliant minds behind these advancements. The chance to ask questions, seek advice, and gain insights from professionals actively shaping the future of pharmaceuticals was invaluable. The humility with which they offered assistance and encouraged open dialogue left a lasting impression.
As I reflected on the event, one burning question lingered: How do these experts manage to juggle the complexities of advancing technology while still being open to supporting others on their journey? The answer became evident—it lies in the shared passion for innovation, a commitment to continuous learning, and a willingness to collaborate. CMAC Open Days not only showcased the forefront of pharmaceutical technology but also exemplified the importance of fostering a supportive community within the industry.
